Garden tractor wheel horse is synonymous with Wheel Horse Garden Tractor. Currently this brand is owned and managed by Toro Engineering and branded Toro Wheel Horse among other brands offered by the company. Garden tractor wheel horse finds its history dating 50 years back.
During the late 50’s, Elmer Pond, the founder of Wheel Horse wanted to fill a market segment remaining void – that of smaller lawn tractor. They launched their first garden tractor wheel horse in the year 1952, and the model was branded Garden Master. This model was targeted towards those who wanted a small tractor for their small garden and lawn needs. Also the tractor could be affordable by an average household.
Next series of models in garden tractor wheel horse product line were Walk Away and Ride Away launched in more than one variant. These were fitted with Wisconsin and Briggs & Stratton engines. Late 60’s were witness to renaming the models to Electro (Auto transmission with electric clutch), Charger (Automatic transmission), Raider (6 speed transmission) and Commando (3 speed transmission).
Garden tractor wheel horse promoters sold the company to Toro Engineering during 80’s. Toro introduced many models under the acquired brand name. Its 300 and 5XI series are worth mentioning.
